It’s one of my favourite times of year, the Winter Solstice. The longest night of the year here in the Southern Hemisphere and the longest day north of the equator.
Solstice means ‘sun standing still’ where it reaches either the lowest or highest point in its ascension. Since antiquity, the Solstices have been a cause for celebration.
The Solstice is essentially a celebration of light, and the absence of darkness. Although it’s the longest night here in Australia, it also means over the next several weeks, we’ll begin to see the days grow gradually longer- yay Summer!
This turning point for the Sun is asks us to pause and reflect on the last 6 months, since the previous Solstice on December 21. What have you achieved? Where can you make improvements? What do you wish to manifest until the Sun stands still again?
In ancient times, astrologers cast charts for the Solstices and the Equinoxes to gain insight for the season ahead.
The Moon
The Moon is in the serene and fertile sign of Taurus, where she holds the special place of exaltation. The Moon provides nourishment and the needs of our survival. In Taurus, the pastures are green and lush, where the bounty is plenty.
Taurus is a fixed earth sign, which is solid, stable and reliable. Notable qualities to ensure our needs continue to be met. The Taurus Moon often reminds me of an Irish Blessing, essentially wishing for all the essential goodness in life.
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
The Moon is in the Balsamic Phase. Like the Winter Solstice itself, the Moon is in her darkest of all her phases. Doubling the pause and reflect vibe of the Solstice.
This phase is about release and surrender. You may be encouraged to let go of something that is preventing you to grow or move forward.
Moon Trine Pluto
The Moon is just shy of an exact trine to Pluto. In the Earth element, you’re invited take positive steps to transform your sense of security, especially financially. With Venus in close proximity to the Moon, being honest about your feelings and relationships will be key.
Saturn Trine the North Node
This aspect reminds us that no goal, hope or manifestation is bereft of discipline. Hoping, wishing or praying is not enough. The 80/20 rule doesn’t apply here. The element of fire is inspiring and enthusiastic. As Saturn enjoys his final Solstice season in Sagittarius, finding a mentor, an authority figure or someone who can hold you accountable can help you strive forward.
