New Moon in Libra – Redefining Relationships

Boy, oh boy, am I looking forward to this New Moon in Libra. Firstly, full disclosure, my natal Moon is in Libra so no doubt, there is some bias there!

I find all New Moons that fall under benefic rulership really hopeful and positive. Those New Moons are Taurus and Libra, both ruled by Venus as well as Sagittarius and Pisces, both ruled by big jolly Jupiter.

This lunation falls under the domain of Venus, who is currently residing in her home sign of Libra. One of my astro gal-pals Kelly Surtees describes Venus being in Libra as cosmic honey, and I couldn’t agree more. Right now, as I type this, I’m popping the new Neapolitan M & M’s into my mouth, and they are super smooth and sweet and surprisingly, taste a lot like my favourite ice cream flavour when I was a kid!

One of the key signatures for Libra is relationship. Not just the intimate ones, but all the relationships we encounter in our life. Libra seeks to establish equilibrium and harmony with all of whom the sign of the scales connects with.

Back in the day, I was a huge Seinfeld fan. Perhaps you remember the episodes where they had the high talker, low talker and the close talker? Jerry was particularly annoyed that people weren’t adhering to his version of social etiquette. Libra is the social lubricant (or cosmic honey if you wish) that keeps things smooth and kink free.

However, this New Moon is in exact opposition to Uranus in Aries. Of all his significations, you won’t find anything that remotely resembles the principles of Libra.

Uranus isn’t interested in the status quo, the smooth sailing or the mutually beneficial negotiations that Libra prides itself on.

Uranus is the rebel. The trailblazer. The pioneer. He represents all that is unique, quirky and individual and does not give one iota what anyone else thinks about it.

So, this is a proverbial spanner in the works for this otherwise harmonious New Moon.

So, what to make of it?

Redefine what relationship means to you. Do something different, something outside of your comfort zone. Put your needs first, even if that ruffles some feathers initially.

While it may not feel like you’re walking on solid ground right now, in fact, you are!

Firstly, Venus is at 6 degrees of Libra under this lunation. This is the part of the zodiac where Libra is in the terms of Saturn- where he is exalted.

This suggests that the norms you don’t comply to, or embracing what is different or rebellious now, will be supported.
Decisions made, or seeds sewn have the stability and support, thanks to Saturn, to grow roots and build a solid foundation from.

But wait…. there’s more!!!!

This New Moon aligns very closely with a Fixed Star known as Spica. According to astrologer Vivian E. Robson, from the book The Fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology, Spica is known to give riches, overcomes contentions, and removes scarcity and mischief.

Spica’s supportive influence combined with Saturn’s stability does promise that going against the status quo is what actually brings equality, harmony and justice to relationships. The woman of Hollywood coming out about sexual harassment in the film industry is a prime example.

While the overarching theme of Libra is relationship, this may not be the key for you under this lunation. We all have Libra somewhere in our natal horoscope and one of the technicalities of astrology is that it may rule other areas of your life, such as your finances, your career, your private or spiritual zones or perhaps your social sectors.

Is there a part of your life where things may be balanced, but teetering upon the boring? Do you need to re-establish the definition of harmony, of balance, of truth or justice?

Are you wearing too many hats in your life in order to please everyone else but yourself?

Perhaps you need to unleash a pioneering spirit within you and do away with what others deem to be acceptable.

As this New Moon perfects at 5:12am on October 20 AEST, I invite you to manifest your desires for change. It may feel destabilising, it may feel invigorating, but it will be supportive.
