Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn is the standout aspect for April. These two planets come together every two years, and when they do, they bring a powerhouse of activity with them.
Mars is our astrological symbol for action, assertiveness and boldness. Its qualities are hot and dry, like the element of fire. Combined, they bring enthusiasm and movement and are not easily deterred by obstacles.
If you’ve ever seen an image of the planet Mars, you’ll notice it beholds what appears to be a deep gash or cut. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Mars governs the notion of cutting or severing.
Sometimes we need to cut things in order to help us grow and prosper. This may be the dicey skin legion that needs to be removed, or it could be the acting of severing contact with people or situations that hold us back.
There are also times where we can all admit of being succumb by the ‘hot under the collar’ temperament of Mars. Being too ready to take action leads to impulsiveness. It reminds me of that saying I learned from my grandmother, ‘cutting one’s nose off despite their face.’
Enter Mars in Capricorn
Like Mars, Capricorn is also considered dry. Influenced by the earth element, Capricorn is cold rather than hot. Mars in Capricorn is a little bit more cool, calm and collected. In the sign of the goat, Mars is exalted. Capricorn cools down the fire of Mars and moderates it, giving the action-orientated principles of Mars greater consistency. The double dose of dryness brings a separative element where emotions or feelings tend not to get in the way of what has to be done.
The combination of feisty and enthusiastic Mars in hardworking Capricorn can help you set your eye on a goal or objective and see it through.
Pluto in Capricorn
Like every cultural mythology in history, there is a lord of the underworld. Pluto is our cosmic representative of that.
Pluto is that planet that initiates us into a situation where you emerge forever changed. Winston Churchill once said, ‘if you find yourself in hell, keep walking,’ and that is the essence of a significant Pluto transit. Pluto tends to bring up what’s hidden within, where changes on the outside are completely unavoidable. These shifts are so powerful that life can almost be defined by the pre-Pluto transit and the post-Pluto transit.
The process of being initiated into the dark underworld within us all can be a scary place. It’s where fears, vulnerability, abuse or misuse of power, toxicity and what is deeply buried lives and festers.
The Fears We Don’t Face Become Our Limits
Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and since then, Mars has come to meet up with Pluto every second year. Together Mars and Pluto can work towards helping you face a fear.
Fear can have two meanings;
Forget Everything and Run
or
Face Everything and Rise
The sign that holds Capricorn in your birth chart can help you understand the fears you might be facing now. Perhaps it’s where you’ve given your power away or allowed fear to drive your actions or will.
The drive for action from Mars can help you cut away from fear and slay that proverbial dragon. It may mean cutting away toxic situations, people or even habits from your life. It may mean cutting away distractions that prevent you from realising a long-held dream.
A healthy Mars knows how to enforce personal boundaries. This Mars/Pluto conjunction may inspire you to say no or eliminate distractions to help you move towards something that is really important to you.
Mars and Pluto also share space with Saturn, the king of boundaries. If you’ve got too much on your plate at the moment, saying no can help bring clarity and focus.
Over the next few days, getting in touch with what you truly want can help you focus on what truly matters. It may mean having to sacrifice what you want now, for what you want most.
Mars and Pluto conjoin at 21 degrees Capricorn April 27/28.
