We are on the eve of a brand-new month that will see us continue through the eclipse portal opening on May 26 under the crimson light of a Lunar Eclipse. The next eclipse, a New Moon on June 10, will backlight the house in your chart ruled by Gemini.
This eclipse sees its ruler Mercury retrograde, forming a close union with the Sun, known as Cazimi. While the eclipse may bring a one-step-forward-one-step-back approach, it may help burn away the dross, clear your mind and clarify your vision as June delivers some turbulent skies.
When I sat down late last year to prepare for talks on 2021, I bookmarked June as a stand-out month, as the signature aspect of the year, the squares between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus becomes exact again.
If your ascending sign is Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius or have planets in those signs in your chart – especially between 10 – 15 degrees, you’ll be feeling the tension between the known and familiar versus what is different and potentially exciting.
Feelings of restlessness and frustration are likely. Perhaps you’re longing for change but don’t know the where, what or how. The reverse may also be true where you’re resisting the change that’s happening all around you.
Saturn and Uranus are vastly different energies. Saturn loves a slow, steady and measured approach, whereas Uranus has a quickening and stimulating effect. When they interact, particularly under the square, clashing forces of will is inevitable.
Clash of the Titans
Saturn’s primary function is to help you create structure. One of the ways it does this is to delineate the limits. This is one of the reasons why Saturn belongs to the diurnal or day sect – you can’t see limits in the dark!
Awareness of limits help you remain contained, secure and stable. As the planet linked to tradition, it obeys the rules and looks to the tried-and-true ways of doing things.
Uranus on the other hand is rebellious. It seeks to create chaos and upheaval and actively resists rules, regulations and any limits imposed upon it. Uranus doesn’t generate sparks just to disrupt your life, it does so to blaze a new trail to liberate you, so you can embrace authenticity, freedom and independence.
Old versus the New
When teaching astrology, I often invite students to imagine being alive in the mid-late 1700’s, when Uranus was discovered.
Imagine knowing all you knew to be true about the Universe suddenly shattered? For centuries, Saturn was the limit of the known Universe and to discover that there was more out there would have been completely paradigm shifting, opening up a new vista to discover and explore.
Some people would have been frightened, actively resisting this new knowledge while others, would have been intrigued by the unknown and excited by the possibilities.
While vastly different, Saturn and Uranus share a special relationship. The space between them is like pathway between the known, safe and secure and the unlimited options available if you dare to think beyond what you always knew to be true.
The Fixed Signs
“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”
I find myself using this quote from someone I’ve long-followed in the fitness industry. Fixed signs often rely on their consistent and methodical approach to reach a goal or outcome. While this can be beneficial in certain circumstances, the astrology of June may remind you that sometimes a new approach is required.
If you’re not where you’d like to be, then changing something up may help you see things from a fresh perspective. Fixed signs resist change. Taurus actively resists it. Hence, the struggle, tension and frustration of the current astrological weather.
Fixed signs are slow to initiate action. When they do, they can generate continuous momentum, but they prefer a guaranteed outcome with each step they take. They are naturally risk adverse which can make Uranus transits tricky terrain to navigate.
Change tends to happen with fixed signs on their own terms and in their own time. Uranus accelerates and speeds things up in obvious ways.
If you have fixed angles or planets in your birth chart, start choosing change or else, the change chooses you and then you have no choice. It may be helpful to take small meaningful steps, rather than taking a giant leap into the unknown. You could start with the smallest things like simply changing your mind about something. Switching up your daily routines and habits. Be open, curious and flexible about what could be, rather than what should be. If you find yourself saying, “but this is what I’ve always done,” that could be your personal clue around what is stuck and may need to change.

Mercury starts retro smack bang on my MC!
A massive rethink of your overall life direction – including your professional life too!
My ascending is Leo
Neptune in Scorpio in the 4th
Jupiter in Tarus in the 10th not sure if I should buckle up or loosen the belt/ ties😳
Perhaps a little bit of both!
Saturn – Uranus, for me, brings to mind the rapture of a Kundalini Awakening. At the square perhaps there’s resistance. I think back to the time in the late 80s when we had Saturn, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn. Would this be an opening square from that time or a waning square? I haven’t researched it that closely. I see this manifesting in many as an inability to be still or to know stillness, rebellion against the quiet mind.
It’s the waning. Yes, you’re right, a big awakening as we forever shift from the earth element too!
